An interview with Kidtechguru

Submitted by newgadgetsguru on January 19, 2009 – 10:25 pm3 Comments

Today I decided to publish an interview with one of the upcoming bloggers in the technology realm. He’s Xavier Lur and he runs Kidtechguru.

Here’s a short Bio about him:

3055334981_df2252b393_mMy name is Xavier Lur, and I am the guy behind this tech blog. I am one of the world’s youngest professional bloggers and a technology expert. I’m from the tiny little red dot on the globe called Singapore.

Currently, I’m just a 14-year-old student who loves blogging and I am keen to share my tech knowledge with all you guys via this blog. Running this tech blog is just one of my interests and a place for me to kill time.

I blog on KidTechGuru about computers, software, blogging and the internet. I have good experience in computer technology, the internet, search engine optimization (SEO), web development and even the blogosphere.

Currently, I live with my family in Singapore and go to Maris Stella High School. Besides having a strong liking for technology, I also enjoy sports like badminton and soccer.

Here’s the interview:

1. Do you see yourself more as a technology blogger or someone who offers tips for other bloggers?

My objective of creating KidTechGuru is to offer online tips and reviewing Web 2.0 apps to keep Internet users or bloggers updated to the latest trends and news on the Web. Hence, I would say that I’m a technology blogger rather than what Darren Rowse of Problogger is doing.

2. You have quite a large following on twitter. In your opinion, is SEO more important or social media websites and web 2.0?

After blogging for a few months, I suddenly realized the need to use Twitter as a way to promote my blog and I started to create an account on October last year. Surprisingly, an increasing number of Twitterers follow me on Twitter since day one. Maybe it’s because I’m very different from other users as many people would want to know what a 14-Year-Old got to say on the micro-blogging platform. Currently, I’ve over 12,000 followers and of course I must thank all my wonderful friends on Twitter for the great support.

In my opinion, spreading the word of mouth on social networking/bookmarking sites is more important than SEO (Search Engine Optimization). We are living in an advanced world that a majority of Internet users tend to have at least a social networking profile that enables us to interact and collaborate with others around the planet. Therefore, using SMO (Social Media Optimization) to gain publicity is important. However, that doesn’t means one can push SEO aside as many Internet users will still make use of Google or Yahoo to search for what they want.

In conclusion, I suggest to have a mix of both SEO and SMO – maybe around 40% and 60% respectively.

3. Could we know what are your favorite gadgets?

Even though I’m a technology geek, but I’m not really obsessed with gadgets. My favorite ones include the popular iPhone, Canon PowerShot SD 850 IS, PSP, Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard, MacBook Air and Logitech G9 Laser Mouse.

4. Do you plan to become a full time blogger or is this just a hobby?

I don’t plan to be a full time blogger when I grow up and I’ll just treat it as a pastime but of course I’ll do it seriously. In my mind, I’ve already set 3 career goals – a Web entrepreneur (creating Web apps), financial investor and a psychologist. It’s quite impossible to handle all these at once so I’ll just pick either one or two of them.

5. There are quite a number of technology blogs around on the web. How do you plan to differentiate yourself from the competition?

Although I can’t write as well as those professional and sophisticated technology bloggers or writers but what makes me different from them is my age. Some people might be curious and would want to find out what can a teenage technology geek can do on his technology blog. In the future years, I’ve planned to hire a few writers to help me out with my new blog. By then, KidTechGuru wouldn’t exist on the Web anyone, it’ll be called….(I’ve already came up with the name but I don’t wish to reveal yet.)

Well done kid! You’ve shown that age is just a number – if you don’t mind it doesn’t really matter! Good luck in all your future endeavors! I hope you will be source of inspiration for my readers too.
