Invisible speakers not so far from reality!

emolabs-invisible-speakersTalk about science fiction. But this aint no Sci-Fi flick! A company called Emo Labs has come up with a technology for invisible speakers for TVs, laptops and any other gadgets with screens. Imagine the amount of space this technology can save as our devices start shrinking in size. They did have a small presence at CES and certainly looks like they weren’t all hype after all.

Standard loudspeakers reproduce sound by moving a cone back and forth. Edge Motion does the job by using arrays of motors to wiggle the edges of a clear membrane. So this clear membrane can be built to sit in front of the display on a TV or notebook and hence the “invisible speaker” tag. The motors could then be built on the frame holding the display and the membrane which could be used to produce the sound. So if you have a bigger screen you will probably have better sound too!
