Truphone meets Android

Submitted by newgadgetsguru on January 22, 2009 – 11:27 amOne Comment

truphoneDo you know what Truphone is? Well it is basically a piece of software that you download to your mobile phone and it helps to route your calls via VoIP and reduce your call costs significantly. It can work with or without WiFi coverage. Truphone is available on the iPod Touch and iPhone and now they have released an application to work on Android phones too.

The Android platform has seen the introduction of VoIP applications like Skype Lite and now Truphone. It would certainly be nice to have a ton of great applications written for Android phones if it was to ever compete against the iPhone. After all the applications on the App Store is really what sets the iPhone apart from the other normal boring phones. With truphone you can keep your existing sim card and just use the application to make and receive calls. Perfect application to drive a point to those expensive telcos?
